My love affair with Asian food began when I met my husband in the early nineties. His parents had spent several years in China, and they often made dishes such as kung pao chicken and beef and broccoli.
When my husband and I visited them in China, back in 1998 (we've never been to Japan, but it's definitely on our bucket list!), we were surprised to realize that local food was very different than what we're accustomed to in the United States. It was light, fresh and delicious.
I especially remember the kung pao chicken that we had at a small neighborhood restaurant. It was very light and very tasty. None of the grease, MSG and a heavy hand with seasonings that we expected.
Since then, I have made many Asian recipes, with the goal of keeping the recipes easy and healthy.
