Expertise

  • Easy everyday recipes. I'm a lazy cook. I will never cook a 20-step recipe that requires 15 ingredients, five of them specialty ingredients! I specialize in easy, everyday recipes for the home cook. The average number of ingredients required for the 600 recipes on this website is six.
  • Real-food recipes. I've avoided ultra-processed foods, sugar, and white flour since 2011. I cook with whole-food ingredients.
  • Low-carb recipes. I started a moderately low-carb diet in 2011 and never looked back. Most of my recipes are low-carb, reflecting the diet I eat (and enjoy) every single day.

Education

  • A Master's degree from Tel Aviv University (LLM)
  • A Nutrition and Healthy Living Certificate from Cornell University
  • A Nutrition Certificate from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Location

  • Moved to the United States in 1999
  • Spent 20 years in San Francisco
  • A two-year stint in Washington, D.C.
  • Currently in Memphis, Tennessee, and loving it here!

How I Stay Fit

My diet helps, but it's not just how I eat. I walk A LOT. I walk at least 7 miles each day and lift light weights 3-4 times a week.

I have a nature trail near my house, and my husband and I walk there almost every day, rain or shine. I also walk when we travel. I avoid cars as much as I can and have no trouble walking 2-3 miles to tourist destinations.

I'm sure you've heard this piece of advice before, but it's worth repeating: find something active you enjoy doing and can do consistently, then stick with it for the long term.

Fun Facts

  1. I'm 54 (Generation X), married to a young baby boomer. I met him at 18 and married him when I was 22. This means I've lived with him twice as long as I lived without him.
  2. I stopped dyeing my hair five years ago. My hair is grey and I like it. I receive many reactions, some positive, some negative. I'm indifferent to the reactions. While I want to be healthy and fit and look good, I have zero desire to appear younger than I am.
  3. I never viewed the low-carb, whole-food diet as a temporary diet. I knew right away it was a long-term choice. I did my share of crash diets in my twenties. I'm done with that. I've been eating this way for fourteen years and have no plans to stop.

The Easy Recipes I Make Every Week
