lamb burger

Juicy and intensely flavorful, lamb is by far my favorite meat. These grilled lamb burgers are not just delicious, but also very easy to make. The combination of the warm pita bread, the savory burgers and the cool, creamy sauce combines to create an exquisite dining experience.

Makes 4 burgers
New quantity:

Total time: 20 minutes
Prep: 10 minutes
Cook: 5 minutes
Assemble: 5 minutes

Ingredients
Sauce:
1 cup plain low fat Greek yogurt
1 cup loosely packed fresh mint leaves
1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Burgers:
1 pound lean (85/15) ground lamb
1/4 cup quick-cooking oats
1/4 cup plain low fat Greek yogurt
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup chopped cilantro

2 large whole-wheat pita bread rounds (100 grams each), halved

Directions
1. To prepare the sauce, process sauce ingredients in food processor until combined. Set aside.

2. To prepare the burgers, mix together burger ingredients. Form 4 large patties, each 3 inches in diameter and 1/2 inch thick.

3. Preheat a two sided, dual contact, George Foreman type indoor grill. Lightly spray with olive oil spray. For medium doneness, grill patties 5 minutes (or 5 minutes on each side if using a regular grill or a grill pan, heated over medium-high heat).

4. To assemble, briefly warm pita in microwave. Place a burger inside each half pita round. Spoon yogurt sauce on top. Serve immediately.
